OPERATIONS

National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) coordinates and actively participates in the response to emergencies alongside the other emergency response organisations, hence the creation of an Operations Department. The Operations department has an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) where all emergencies are first reported. There are communication gadgets mounted to receive and disseminate information. The EOC is activated during emergencies.

The activities of the department gave birth to the Rapid Response Unit now the Urban Search and Rescue Unit. The department also have an operations room which operates 24hours a day and 7 days a week. The Operations room is manned by the personnel of the Urban Search and Rescue Unit who are divided into three (3) syndicates and rotate in three (3) shifts. The unit comprises Ex -Servicemen and men and women who had had training from the military and the Fire Service.
Activities of the Department

During rescue emergencies like Floods, Fire Outbreaks, Road Traffic Accidents, Collapsed of Buildings, Fallen Trees and any other forms of emergencies. The Unit has the following rescue machines to use. These include the following;

  • Extrication Machines
  • Spreaders
  • Cutters
  • Chain Saws
  • Water Pumping Machines
  • Outboard Motors And Boats
  • Life Jackets and Others
  • List of Equipment and What It Is Used For
  • Pumping Machines - Used in pumping water in times of flood disasters
  • Outboard Motor and Boats -Used in evacuating trapped flood disaster victims
  • Life Jacket -Used to rescue flood victims and also used by rescue men in their operation
  • Extrication Machines- Used in rescuing victims trapped in vehicular Accidents
  • Disc cutter / Spreader - Used in cutting metal in times of accident
  • Chain Saw - Used in cutting trees
  • Tower Lux - Used to provide light at places where there are no electricity powers
